Autorretrato

Hoy redescubrí mi estampa,
n
o ando del todo mal.
Después de tanto azote y diezmo aún puedo sonreír
y el odio no me tienta,
ni la venganza asoma
sus turbios derroteros.;
e

entre sueños de Verne y Salgari;

Tuve amores furtivos y falsos

caro y fiel amigo
que carga mi pena en su vuelo.

Sé de la gloria y el polvo,
de caer y de alzarse en silencio,
de resistir,
de nacer y morir a lo viejo
con una estrella en las manos.

Recobro la calma,
me encuentro a mi mismo sin muchas palabras.
No hay nada infecundo que pueda mancharme.
Nada nos separa.

Retorno a mi origen

¡Frente a ti! ¡Frente al mar!

Self-portrait

Today I rediscovered my image,
I’m not that bad at all.,
In spite of all the lashings and the tithe I can still smile.
and hatred doesn’t tempt me,
nor vengeance shows
its wicked ways;
Reaching my 50s, my body gets better
and my mind is more open to the blowing winds of change,
but…my hair is turning gray and there’s no way I can avoid
give the old age the first step..

My childhood was peaceful and blessed
dreaming the dreams of Verne and Salgari;
the hard part was the leap to life, with so much hope,
the uncertainty of the path through trails of foam.

I had furtive and false loves
that ignited the cult of the idea
and also everlasting springs that saved the good,
the nobleness of singing that has always been a part of my skin..

I flee from resentment, as from a ghost
and when I encounter it,
I force it to hide in the dungeon of the soul

Against its bites, verse is my redemption,
beloved and loyal friend
that carries my sorrows on its wing

I know about glory and dust,
about falling and rising in silence,
about resisting,
to be born and to die ignobly
with a star in my hands.

I recover the calmness
finding myself needing few words
There is nothing barren that could tarnish me
Nothing separates us.
To my origin I return,
and touch the shadow that I have always hidden
I come out from the mud and stand waiting for “The Flood”
Facing you! Facing the sea!

Amigos

Amigos, volando a todo pecho

con la inocencia a cuestas

sorteando flores de lecho en lecho

matando amor y tiempo.

Amigos, violando madrugadas

teniendo por testigos

un perro hambriento y la alborada

que nos recibe y guarda.

Amigos, pisando malas hierbas

compartiendo pecados

que nos embisten de lado a lado

y nos reclaman penas.

Amigos, bribones bordoneros

actores mal hablados

pintores tiernos,

poetas raros mal vistos y adorados.

Amigos, para olvidar el frio

y las adversidades

que hacen del alma ese paraje

intransitable y voraz.

Amigos, para partir el verso

el pan y los asuntos

y no volvernos al mismo surco

cuando termine el canto.

Amigos, que ya se nos quedaron

en el primer remanso

y se perdieron en un segundo

sobre sus propios pasos.

Amigos, que llegarán de pronto

que encontraré en las siembras

y en los abrojos, en las caídas,

entre despojos del canto

Amigos,

Friends

Friends, flying with our hearts aflutter

bearing the innocence on our shoulders

gathering flowers from bed to bed

wasting love and time.

Friends, ravaging early mornings,

with our only witness

a famished dog and the dawn

to welcome and shelter us.

Friends, ambling through weeds

sharing sins

that come at us from all sides

and demand our sorrow

Friends, oh vagrant scoundrels,

foul-mouthed actors,

tender artists,

strange poets, shunned and revered

Friends, to forget the cold

and the adversities

who transform the soul into this

impassable and voracious place.

Friends, to share the verse,

our daily bread and the trivial

never to return to the same furrow

when the song has ceased.

Friends, that were left behind

at the first awakening

and in an instant lost

in the trample of their own steps.

Friends, who will suddenly appear,

that I will find at harvest through reefs and falls

among the remains of the song.

Friends, who weep at my departure

and wait for my return

always knowing in the end that we’ll forever be friends.

Ana Maria

Saber de ti es difícil. Retenerte… imposible.

Ana Maria

To know of you is difficult. Holding onto you impossible.

To follow you is to confront walls and frontiers

To find faith once more.

Jumping at your word that you light up like a game

is to find myself wounded and about to make a pact

with angels and stars that you conjure up so well

Breaking the distances, you are sheltered by the yellow color

the shuttered heart, the mystery of the wine

and the year that just passed by.

To seek you is unwise if I still want you to bloom

To touch your free spirit

your Geminian’s sigh deserves a faithful kiss

and not a stolen one,  changing the proverbs

Not to love you , -if you come- is to risk breaking my luck

sentencing my trace to wander with its mistake

And sharing with you, just a couple of dawns,

the last gift this city would grant me before I must depart

Ana Maria.

Hijos

Children

To Chris ... who arrived without announcing himself

They come unannounced and without purchasing a ticket

spending nine months as stowaways

they change everything mess around with everything

with time and the routine of the heart.

They come screaming to the wind they are like lost birds

that want to interact and recognize.

They respond to a silly face with gestures and smiles

and open themselves to love without pomp or self-interest

We give them food, clothes and shelter

We repress their longings to go fly

We want them to move as we please

and we can’t sleep when they are not there.

And one day they will want to go, same way as they came

we will barely notice it, such a stowaway

Perhaps some reproach will hint from their eyes

and for sure, they will be right.

Esa mujer mortal, misteriosa y austera

That Woman (who arrives…)

That woman who arrives like a swallow,

turning the corner of my life one of these dawns,

who seeds my path so stealthily,

bears me in her flock from evening on.

That fleeting woman whom my city longs

for when the hour comes to gaze upon the sea.

That fearsome woman who fits between my fingers

when love grows tired of flying endlessly.

That burnished woman, with her hair aflutter

and her old trick of looking right at me, and through,

stands trembling when the moonlight cuts her,

and, delicate as foam, divides in two.

That tender woman who loves me, drifting,

will tire only when overcome by time,

as she fills my bed with spikenard and jasmine,

and dozes in my poem, lulled by my rhyme.

That woman who holds the scent of earth,

declares war on the blade of my voice.

That woman in bloom, violet or poppy,

shatters her petals if I speak to her of love.

That woman who sleeps with her dead beside her

and summons them before her from the gloom,

partakes of my summers with her body,

my candid heart suspects she is my truth.

That mortal woman, mysterious, austere,

secure, inventive when it comes to love,

simple, ideal as a butterfly,

becomes contagious with a single touch.

That eternal woman who will close my eyes,

collecting my remains, swept in by the swell,

there on the sand, dawn will find her,

struggling to wrap me in her fatal veil.

That woman who arrives like a swallow…
